Goals

2014-15 CTA/NEA-Retired Goals

CTA:NEA-R logo Purpose of the Association

This association shall be dedicated to the promotion of retirement with dignity, a fair and just retirement income, a comprehensive health care program, and decent, affordable housing through:

a)  Promoting the social, professional and economic status and the general welfare of retirees;

b)  Promoting volunteer participation by its members in educational and civic affairs; and

c)  Promoting united action with CTA/NEA and its local affiliates of CTA/NEA and others devoted to the cause of public education. (Proposed bylaw change)

Goals (strategies) to accomplish this purpose:

1.  Improve communications with our members and members of CTA

a)  Establish regular, two-way communications between the Association and the Retired Chapters

b)  Continue increasing effectiveness of the Retiree Action Network (RAN) by August 31, 2015

c)  Strengthen the Service Center Council Liaison program including the roles of the liaison

d)  Continue improving our communication tools via website, Facebook, and other means

2.  Expand the opportunities for retired educators to positively influence their general welfare, support public education and engage with their communities

a)  Provide information to aid our members to achieve optimum quality of life, fulfillment and enjoyment during their retirement years

b)  Educate our members and encourage them to be strong advocates for a secure retirement, organizational/union issues and social justice causes

c)  Educate and encourage our members to champion community support of public education and those who work in and attend public schools.  Emphasize the need for adequate funding of public education (Pre-K to Higher Ed.) and affordable higher education for all

d)  Increase attendance at the Annual CTA/NEA Retirement Issues Conference.  Encourage participation by “first-time” attendees

3.  Grow the Association

a)  Increase membership by 5% by August 31, 2015

b)  Establish at least one Retired Chapter in every Service Center Council (long term)

  • Two new chapters will be established by August 31, 2015

c)  Continue the CTA/NEA-Retired workgroup

  • Continue efforts to increase membership, member engagement, and promote the value of belonging to CTA/NEA-Retired
  • Review and strengthen the Association structure and help the Association achieve its goals
